The last Aztec emperor, Cuauhtémoc, surrenders Tenochtitlán, called the "Venice of the West"
as it was located in Lake Texcoco, and probably the largest city on earth, to Hernán Cortés, thus
beginning the environmental decline of what today is the largest, and perhaps the most polluted,
clustering of humans on earth. All because 680 years ago someone saw an eagle eating a snake.
